Investing in a historic property not only grants you a unique living experience but can also be a lucrative investment.

The Appeal of Tree-Lined Streets

East Hill Community Highlights

The dining, historical beauty, and art scene are spectacular in East Hill and are a huge perk to owning real estate in this Pensacola neighborhood. Let’s go over some of the best places to dine and explore when in East Hill.

Old Sacred Heart Hospital

Dating back to 1915, the old Sacred Heart Hospital, now housing various businesses and restaurants on its lower floors, carries with it an eerie reputation. Locals whisper about the fourth and fifth floors, where they claim ghostly figures still roam the dimly lit hallways.

It’s a great place to get a bite to eat and explore, as the building hosts a small museum dedicated to the original artifacts found in this historic monument.

We highly recommend checking out the local favorite O’Zone Pizza Pub located on the bottom floor of the Old Sacred Heart Hospital, the Ponderosa Stomp is delicious!

Breweries, Food Trucks, and Arts Festivals

East Hill is famous for its charming tree tunnel that is host to Pensacola’s oldest little beer bar, The Wisteria.

Now a beloved family-owned establishment, the Wisteria holds a hallowed place in Pensacola’s history, although it’s shrouded in a mix of urban legends and misconceptions. Here’s what we’ve managed to uncover about the charming little dive.

The origins of the Wisteria trace back to the late 1920s or early 30s when it began as a humble grocery and supply store. It was a place where folks returning from their hunting and fishing escapades in the present-day Cordova Mall area could quench their thirst with a cold beer as the day waned. As the libations flowed, the store’s identity gradually shifted from a grocery supplier to a bustling neighborhood bar.

The transformation was formalized in 1935 when the State of Florida bestowed upon it a “Beer only” liquor license. From that moment, the Wisteria Tavern emerged as an enduring fixture, rooted in the same spot, and witnessed only four different owners throughout its storied existence. While legends and myths abound, these are the well-documented chapters of the Wisteria’s journey through time. Now the Wisteria has expanded to host art markets, food trucks, and a plethora of outdoor seating.

Alga Brewery is a newer staple to the East Hill neighborhood, but their entrance tells you exactly how they feel about the area, and the locals all love Alga as well. With delicious creative brews and a laid-back atmosphere, this brewery is a fun spot to hop in and say hello to your friends and neighbors. If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat, Alga is also home to food trucks that will keep you coming back for more than just the friendly atmosphere.

Some of the greatest things about East Hill are the regular arts and crafts festivals. Pensacola Arts Market is a free local festival that is recurring every 4th Saturday in Cordova Square. It’s a beautiful park located on the corner of E Gonzales St & N 12th Avenue in the East Hill neighborhood. Enjoy a local artisan & farmers market with over 50 vendors, food trucks, handcrafted goods, plants, vintage clothing & décor, live musical performances, kids crafts & games.
